About SalaryHub

UK Salary, Tax and Take-Home Pay Calculators

SalaryHub helps you estimate your take-home pay, understand your deductions and compare how UK tax rules affect your income. Our calculators are built for employees, self-employed workers and anyone who wants a clearer view of their pay.

Why SalaryHub exists

UK pay can be difficult to understand once Income Tax, National Insurance, pensions, student loans, bonuses and tax codes are involved. SalaryHub was created to make those calculations easier to follow, with clear breakdowns rather than just a final take-home figure.

The aim is simple: help you see what you might actually receive each month, what is being deducted, and which settings affect your result.

How our calculators work

Our calculators use the tax year, salary amount, employment type and optional deductions you enter to estimate your gross pay, Income Tax, National Insurance, pension contributions, student loan repayments and estimated take-home pay.

The default tax year is currently 2026/27 and the default tax code is 1257L.

UK Tax Information Used by SalaryHub

SalaryHub uses official UK tax rules and thresholds to estimate Income Tax, National Insurance, pension deductions, student loan repayments and take-home pay. These values are stored in tax-year configuration files so they can be updated automatically whenever a new UK tax year is added.

Our calculators currently support 21 tax years, with 2026/27 used by default. The standard tax code for this year is 1257L.

Income Tax

SalaryHub calculates UK Income Tax using the Personal Allowance and the relevant tax bands, including basic rate, higher rate and additional rate thresholds. Support for Scottish Income Tax rates can also be added where applicable.

National Insurance

Our salary calculators estimate employee National Insurance contributions using the annual and monthly thresholds for the selected tax year. Employer National Insurance and staff cost calculations are also supported in certain tools.

Student Loan Repayments

SalaryHub supports Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4, Plan 5 and Postgraduate Loans, using the official repayment thresholds and percentages for each tax year.

Pension Contributions

Pension deductions can be calculated as either a fixed amount or a percentage of salary. This helps users estimate how workplace pension contributions affect their take-home pay.

Tax Codes

Common UK tax codes such as 1257L, BR, D0, D1, NT and K codes are supported, allowing users to model a wide range of payroll scenarios.

Bonuses and Additional Income

SalaryHub includes a Bonus Calculator to estimate the net value of one-off bonuses, and can also account for second jobs and additional taxable income.

Historic Tax Data

We are building additional tools to compare UK tax rates and take-home pay over time, helping users see how salaries and deductions have changed across different tax years.
